About

Hi, welcome to the Tovar Brain Inspired AI Lab. I started this group to focus on the important intersection between neuroscience, clinical medicine, and artificial intelligence. I received dual degrees in Neurobiology & Physiology and Psychology from the University of Maryland, followed by an MD from Vanderbilt School of Medicine and a PhD in Neuroscience focused on perception across biological and artificial systems. My professional path has taken me from developing quality control measures for neuroimaging at the FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health to exploring applied perception science as a Research Scientist at Meta. I'm particularly passionate about developing computational models that not only advance AI but also deepen our understanding of clinical populations and neurological conditions. Our lab bridges the gap between biological and artificial intelligence, creating models that help us understand both human cognition and build more human-aligned AI systems with real-world applications in healthcare and beyond.
